Accommodation
Edward Constable built the Kentish Hotel as a 'Home away from Home'.
He selected the site on the banks of the Waiuku Estary alongside one of the busiest inland ports in New Zealand of the time. Passengers and their cargo would depart Onehung enroute to Taupo. After one days travelling they would unload their goods at the port in Waiuku and stay a night in Edward's Hotel. Then continue their journey 2 miles overland to the Waikato River and onwards to Taupo. As rail developed in popularity and then Great South Road opened leaving The Kentish Hotel as a testimant to good old fashioned hospitality and pioneering spirit.
The Kentish Hotel has been the ideal resting spot for many a weary traveller and over the years there have been small changes, upgrades and maintenance but it still retains the charm and appearance of yesteryear (including those uneven floors!).
We have available 11 good clean rooms with access to the long verandah that overlooks the main street of Waiuku and the tidal Waiuku Estuary. Here you can enjoy an evening nightcap or a morning coffee.
